Have you seen today's Daily Express??????an article by Sir Alex Ferguson in which he states Beckham will fail in the USA.

Has it taken him 6 months to come to the same oppinion as me!...perhaps I should have his job.

DOOMED for failure, injury prone now at his age,will not be able to cope with all the internal, let alone the atlantic flights, should never have played in the last England game.

The bet is how big the game will be in 12 months time not now.

Of course they will get big gates at the start, but when they keep losing they will all drift off .

It will never catch on, others have tried and failed just like Beckham will, although he will come out of it a lot richer than anyone before him.

I saw a clip on tv showing his goal from a free kick....the goal keeper ran the wrong way....just shows the standard of footy out there....did they win their game as I did not see the result.

You are of course correct in that marketing has changed over the last 30 years and yes I am old enough to have witnessed it all

However one man no matter how good at his sport and however he is marketed, even with a very high profile will never make football in the USA any more than it is now.

He will be a 5 minute wonder and when the novelty wears off which won't take long all the fuss about Beckham and football will be forgotten.

Rember these words this time next year.

Sorry Kopite1....he may have the best right foot you have ever seen, but he will NEVER make football in the USA anything more than it is now.
Others have tried including the great Pele, perhaps you are not old enough to rember him????, but football will always come 3rd after American football and baseball.

He is there for the money, the lifestyle and that's where it ends.

A second rate competition maybe.....but it gets you in to european football....

IN A RECENT SURVEY IN TH USA 50% OF THE PEOPLE DID NOT KNOW WHO HE WAS....WHAT A SURPRISE.

HE WILL NOT CHANGE FOOTBALL IN THE US....THEY HELD THE WORLD CUP AND THAT DID'NT HAVE ANY IMPACT.

HE'S GONE FOR THE MONEY AND GOOD LUCK TO HIM.
